Supreme Court Declines Michigan Students’ Appeal Over ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Shirts

October 5, 2026 — Court Watch / Free Speech.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal brought by a Michigan mother whose two sons were told not to wear sweatshirts bearing the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” at school. The refusal leaves in place a Sixth Circuit ruling that the school could prohibit the slogan as vulgar speech.

The family argued that the restriction violated the students’ First Amendment rights. The school district maintained that the slogan’s widely understood profane meaning made it inappropriate at school. The Sixth Circuit ruled for the district.

Status: The Supreme Court gave no explanation for denying review and did not issue a merits ruling. The lower-court judgment remains in effect in this case.
