DNC Sues Over Use of Federal Funds for Trump Administration TV Ads

The Democratic National Committee filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia challenging the Trump administration’s use of taxpayer funds for television advertisements featuring President Donald Trump. The DNC alleges that the ads violate federal restrictions on the use of appropriated money for publicity or propaganda and asks the court to halt further federal funding.

The Associated Press reported that the campaign’s ads have cost more than $12 million to air, with $20 million in Department of Homeland Security funding allocated. The White House has described the spots as public-service announcements; the administration had not responded to the lawsuit when AP reported.

The allegations are now before the court. No ruling has been issued, and the complaint’s claims have not been established as findings of fact.
