Christian Student Groups Sue Virginia State University Over Campus Ministry Policy
Reported October 1, 2026 | Procedural status: Federal lawsuit filed September 24; no ruling on the claims reported.
Women of Victory and Bethel Campus Fellowship, two Christian student organizations at Virginia State University, sued the university in federal court. Their complaint challenges VSU’s updated Campus Ministries Policy, alleging it places Christian student ministries under the oversight of a university campus minister and advisory board while exempting the Muslim Students Association and VSU Community Faith Alliance.
The groups say the policy removed their independent registered-student-organization status and restricts their relationship with national organizations. They ask the court to restore their recognition and allege violations of First and Fourteenth Amendment rights. These are allegations in a pending lawsuit, not findings by a court. Fox News Digital reported that VSU did not immediately respond to its request for comment; local NBC affiliate WWBT also reported that it had not received a response. A federal judge has not ruled on the claims.
