Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Big Bend Border-Wall Construction
October 2, 2026
U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone issued a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking additional border-wall construction and related ground-disturbing activity in Texas’ Big Bend region while a lawsuit proceeds.
The challengers, including local landowners and environmental groups, argue that the federal government exceeded its authority and that construction could cause environmental, cultural and property harms. The government has defended its border-security authority.
Legal status: This is a preliminary injunction, not a final ruling on the merits. The judge found that the plaintiffs were likely to succeed on at least one claim and could suffer irreparable harm without temporary relief.
